Visa and Invitation to Ukraine are important documents that allow foreign citizens to legally enter the territory of Ukraine for various purposes: business, study, work, tourism, or family reunification. The Invitation is the basis for obtaining a visa, which entitles you to enter the country for a specified period of time.
What types of visas are there in Ukraine:
- Short-term Type C Visa: The most common visa for businesspeople and tourists. It allows you to stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days within six months. It usually entitles you to one entry into Ukraine.
- Long-term Type D Visa: A long-term visa is usually intended for obtaining a Residence Permit or an Immigration Permit to Ukraine. It usually allows multiple crossings of the state border of Ukraine.
- Visa-free regime: Visa-free regime applies to a certain list of countries. The list is available at https://mfa.gov.ua/consul/foreigners/entry-and-stay/rezhim-vyizdu-inozemciv-do-ukrayini-za-derzhavami. The duration of stay under the visa-free regime is no more than 90 days within the last 180 days.
- Type B transit visa: Short-term visa which is intended for transit through the territory of Ukraine. It is issued for a period of no more than 1 year and allows you to stay in Ukraine for up to 5 days. It can be single-entry or multiple-entry.
Each type of visa requires the preparation of a specific set of documents that must comply with the requirements of the current legislation and is individual for each type of Ukrainian visa.
An Invitation to obtain a visa and visit Ukraine is an official document confirming the intentions of a citizen of Ukraine, a foreigner legally residing in Ukraine or a legal entity (company, non-governmental organization, educational institution, hospital, etc.) to be a host party and guarantor for a foreigner who is indicated in the Invitation and intends to come to Ukraine.
Invitations are divided into the following types:
1. Private Invitation (from an individual)
If a foreigner visits relatives or friends, the Invitation is issued by an individual citizen of Ukraine or a foreigner legally residing in Ukraine.
What is required from the Inviter:
- A Passport of a citizen of Ukraine or a Residence Permit.
- A document confirming family ties (if any).
- Notarized Invitation (optional, but it increases trust in the Embassy).
- It is necessary to specify:
- Passport details of the foreigner.
- Planned period of stay of the Invitee in Ukraine.
- Place of residence of the foreigner in Ukraine.
- Obligations to cover the foreigner's expenses in Ukraine, if necessary.
2. Business Invitation (from a legal entity)
If the visit is related to business, studying or official events, the company or organisation issues the Invitation.
What is required from the organisation:
- Certificate of State Registration.
- Invitation Letter on a letterhead.
- Signature of the Chief Executive Officer, seal.
- Specify the purpose, duration of the visit and financial liabilities.
3. Tourism Invitation
If a foreigner comes for tourist purposes, an Invitation can be issued by a registered travel agency. The agency issues a travel voucher, which indicates the route, place of residence and duration of the Invitee’s trip.
